Nach einer langen Busfahrt kommen wir frühmorgens im Busbahnhof Chiang Mais an. Wir entscheiden uns, die „GRAB IS ILLEGAL“ Schilder zu ignorieren und buchen ein Taxi zu unserem Guesthouse mit Grab (ähnlich wie Uber). „Is Grab illegal in Chiang Mai“ fragt Alex. „Yes“ sagt der Fahrer. Wir beschließen, dass wir einfach drei Freunde auf dem Weg in die Altstadt sind. Wir sind begeistert von unserem Guesthouse, alles ist sehr schick eingerichtet, es gibt zwei sehr schöne Koi Teiche und das beste Frühstück was wir bisher auf unserer Reise hatten (jede Menge frisches Obst mit Nüssen, Müsli und Joghurt). Nach Indien fühlen sich die Unterkünfte alle an wie 5 Sterne Resorts. Entspannt und mit gefühlt zehn Obstkörben im Bauch machen wir uns auf Entdeckungstour durch die Altstadt. Die besteht zu 99% aus Tempeln, wir klappern einem nach dem nächsten ab und sind irgendwann sehr gesättigt von Mönchskutten, Glitzerbuddhas und merkwürdigen Tierstatuen.
Wenn wir gewusst hätten, dass sich die gesamte Altstadt in der Nacht zu einem riesen Nachtmarkt wandelt, hätten wir es den Tag über sicher etwas ruhiger angegangen. Der Nachtmarkt ist wirklich beeindruckend: wir laufen mehrere Kilometer durch bunt geschmückte Straßen, die Tempel sind mit leuchtenden Lampions geschmückt und nach jedem Schnickschnack Stand gibt es ESSEN. Da das unser erster richtig großer asiatischer Nachtmarkt ist, rasten wir auch etwas auf das Essen aus. An jeder Ecke bleiben wir stehen, überlegen circa 0,2 Sekunden und probieren alles, was uns unter die Augen kommt. Snacking around the world!
Am Folgetag fühlen wir uns 10 kg schwerer und entscheiden, uns auf einen Berg fahren zu lassen und wandern zu gehen. Die Bewegung scheint uns sinnvoll, vor allem weil wir am Abend einen weiteren Nachtmarkt besuchen wollen. 😉 Die Fahrt mit dem Tuktuk auf den Berg ist kurvig. Sehr kurvig. Kats Magen macht das nicht so richtig mit. Auf dem Berg entscheiden wir, das Tuktuk nach unten um alles in der Welt zu vermeiden. Was wir also den Rest des Tages tun: wir wandern einen steilen Weg den Berg herunter. Sinn der Trekking Strecke, die sich „Monks Trail“ nennt, ist es eigentlich, den Berg hochzuwandern und sich dabei alle Tempel auf dem Weg anzuschauen. Wir finden aber: gegen Strom ist tausend Mal besser. Und so holen wir uns den größten Wadenmuskelkater unserer Reise, genießen aber gleichzeitig auch die Ruhe in den Wäldern.
Das Abend Programm ist das übliche: Bamboo Tatoo stechen lassen, die Party Ecke der Altstadt aufsuchen, in der Reggae Bar selbst mitgebrachten Whiskey trinken und in der Mega Party Dance Bar eine runde abshaken. Zu guter Letzt noch bei 7-11 einen viel zu heißen Kaffee (Aua!) trinken, weil es keinen Tee gibt aber irgendetwas gegen die Erkältung aus dem Bangkoker Kino getan werden
